Laos, Asean and the Hong Kong region of the People's Republic of China are working together to enhance the regulatory framework for accountancy services and to improve understanding of the free trade agreement between Asean and Hong Kong.

In this context, the Department of Foreign Trade Policy under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC) organized a two-day online workshop on the theme "Strengthening Regulatory Framework and Implementation for Accountancy Services"

The aim of the workshop was to enhance capacity-building for administrators of accountancy services, negotiations for trade services, businesses units engaged in accounting and other general Learners through the exchange of knowledge, lessons, and experiences among Asean members and Hong Kong

The workshop also focused on the management policy for accountancy and case studies for businesses involved in accountancy.

In this keynote speech at the opening ceremony, the department's Director General, Mr. Saysana Sayakone, said the workshop will enable participants to understand the free trade agreement between Asean and Hong Kong and also lead to information and business networking in the future.

“For Laos, the government has focused on the development of trade in the services sector, including accountancy services through the enactment of several laws. accountancy services are managed by the Accountancy Department of the Ministry of Finance in collaboration with different sectors of public, private and education institutes.” he said.

The two day workshop, brought together specialists from Laos, Malaysia, Hongkong, The Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam and more than 40 participants from across Laos, Asean and Hong Kong.

Asean was Hong Kong’s second largest trading partner in merchandise trade in 2020 and fourth largest in services trade in 2019.
