The official launch of WeChat Pay & AliPay in Lao PDR was held on 11 October 2019, at Lao Plaza Hotel, Vientiane capital. The event was co-chaired by Mr. Phoukhong Chanthachak, BCEL's Chief Executive Officer, and Mr. Jacky Chiang, Swift Pass‘s Chief Strategy Officer, and attended by invited guests and mass media from various sectors.
Mr. Phoukhong chanthachak said that BCEL cooperates with Swift Pass and NTT DATA to increase more payment channels by allowing BCEL's merchant members to accept the payment via WeChat Pay & AliPay across Lao PDR. Currently, there are over 10,000 lao stores accept the payment via QR Code Function (One Pay) through BCEL One application. Thus, this function shall become available with WeChat Pay and AliPay as well.
Chinese tourists spend around $5,565 per person for a trip, which 65 percents of them using payment service on mobile. Therefore, Partnering with BCEL, as to facilitate the payment via WeChat Pay and AliPay, will promote Lao stores across the country to attract more Chinese tourists and to reach their sales targets, said by Mr. Jacky Chiang.
